Okay, I’ll admit it: when it comes to holiday lawn decorations, I tend to go a little overboard. I’m not quite on Chevy Chase’s level in “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation” — no full-on electrical grid shutdowns here — but I do love to bring a little seasonal magic to my yard.
Whether it’s pumpkins, scarecrows, or monsters popping out of the bushes, there’s just something satisfying about making your lawn look like it stepped out of a Pinterest board… with a twist.
Over the years, I’ve become the kind of person who plans her fall setup long before the leaves even begin to change. I mean, if Starbucks can roll out pumpkin spice lattes in August, then surely I can drag out my scarecrows by September, right?

At my old house, my fall lawn was a rotating display of hay bales, happy scarecrows, rustic signs, and the occasional pumpkin or two (or ten). It was the kind of decor that made neighborhood walkers slow down just a little to take it all in. Not spooky — just cozy, cheerful, and undeniably autumn.
Now that I’m in a new house, the tradition continues — with a few upgrades.
This year, the scarecrow gang made their triumphant return to the front lawn in early September and stuck around through Halloween and Thanksgiving. (Yes, my neighbors have grown used to my seasonal enthusiasm.) I found most of these little guys for under $10 at places like Walmart, Fred’s, and other delightfully affordable dollar stores. It’s amazing how something so inexpensive can bring so much charm to your space.
And this fall, I added a new member to the scarecrow squad. He’s currently standing guard on the front porch like a cheerful little bouncer, making sure no one forgets it’s still autumn — even as Christmas inflatables start popping up in yards around the neighborhood.
Just last week, I even put together a fall centerpiece to match the vibe. It’s rustic, colorful, and makes me feel like I’m living in a Hallmark movie where people wear chunky sweaters, drink cider, and stumble into love at the pumpkin patch.
I’ll be posting a new blog soon with photos of my current setup, including the scarecrow centerpiece and maybe even a few bonus pics of the fall wreath on my front door (DIY, of course). Because around here, we celebrate all the fall things.
If you’ve been bitten by the autumn decorating bug too, I want to see it! Have you created a cozy porch scene or sprinkled your home with cinnamon-scented goodness? Do you have a quirky scarecrow, a pumpkin pyramid, or a DIY leaf garland that deserves some love?
Drop a link to your gallery or Instagram in the comments, and I just might feature your fall flair in a future post. After all, one can never have too many scarecrows — or too many friends who share an affection for flannel, foliage, and festive front lawns.
