I love stumbling across unexpected treasures, and recently, I hit the jackpot during a quick trip to a local thrift store.
As I was browsing the aisles, something caught my eye — a hand-stitched piece of art in the shape of Mississippi. Since I collect all things Mississippi-shaped, I knew I had to rescue it from thrift store obscurity. Even better? It was only $1.
The piece was clearly crafted with care, complete with “1993” stitched near the bottom of the state — marking it as a 20-year-old time capsule. The only thing holding it back was its frame: outdated, with a border featuring some sadly faded paper hearts tucked into the corners. But I saw potential.
I brought it home, gave it a little TLC, and swapped the frame for something new. I pulled out my acrylic paints and carefully touched up the original border hidden underneath the old one, giving it a fresh, cleaner look. It only took a few minutes, but the transformation was just what it needed.
Now, this charming piece sits proudly on top of my bookshelf, nestled among my other Mississippi-themed finds. A little love, a little paint, and a single dollar later — it’s found a whole new life.
