For more than 20 years, I’ve had what could best be described as a “tree bed” — a headboard and footboard crafted entirely from real tree branches.
I bought the bed in Ripley, Mississippi, and though it’s a little rustic and wild, it’s held up beautifully over the years. If you use your imagination, it kind of feels like you are sleeping in a treehouse every night.
The bed has always inspired a cozy, nature-inspired aesthetic, but recently, I decided it was time to add a more intentional theme to the room — something nostalgic, yet bold. That’s when I landed on peacocks.
Growing up, I vividly remember a pair of decorative metal peacocks hanging on the wall of my childhood home. So, I decided to make them the centerpiece of my room’s vintage vibe.
I began by hunting for similar peacock pieces online and lucked out with a pair on eBay for around $20. A few weeks later, I was even luckier to stumble upon another vintage pair at a thrift store — for an even better price! (One of the joys of decorating on a budget is letting the universe guide your design finds.)

To continue the theme, I repurposed a jeweled velvet peacock picture I had previously discovered at a thrift store. I wanted to give it more presence in the room, so I mounted it on a larger canvas to make it a focal point.
To do this, I picked up a piece of foam board from a craft store, covered it in neutral burlap fabric, and hung the framed peacock artwork right in the center. The result? A bold, eye-catching display with texture, depth, and just the right amount of sparkle.
To complete the look, I added a strand of warm white Christmas lights to the headboard, weaving them through the branches to give the bed a soft, magical glow at night. I also tossed on a couple of plush decorative pillows from TJ Maxx that fit the room’s color palette perfectly — soft blues, earthy greens, and peacock-inspired jewel tones.
The result is a space that feels whimsical and grounded — like a nature retreat with a vintage twist. It’s peaceful, personal, and filled with little details that tell a story.
Do you have a room with a nostalgic theme? Have you ever built a space around a memory from childhood? I’d love to hear about it. Drop me a line at at the link above.
