So, what happens when one of the world’s most polarizing reality stars drops into Mississippi for a perfume signing? Answer: You get flashing lights, flashing phones, and a whole lot of sparkly outfits.
Northpark Mall in Ridgeland rolled out the red carpet — plus an ambulance, fire truck, and multiple police cruisers — for Kim Kardashian’s appearance at Belk to promote her perfume, True Reflection. Fans who shelled out $95 for the fragrance got the chance to meet the star between 6 and 8 p.m., and let’s just say the turnout didn’t disappoint.
Despite the negative comments that followed our online stories about her visit (because, let’s be honest, the Kardashians are always a hot topic), I had a feeling she’d draw a crowd. And she did. The Belk store was buzzing with energy, and the line wrapped completely around it — mostly filled with women, but peppered with a few guys, too.
Before heading in, I sat in my car watching the scene build like a slow-moving pop concert. Inside, music thumped as shoppers clutched perfume bottles, hoping for a moment with Kim. My editor and I weaved through the roped-off crowd, estimating the headcount, then crossed paths with a security guard who seemed determined to keep the Kardashian-induced frenzy under control.
I didn’t get to shake her hand (or sniff the perfume), but I caught a glimpse of her. Our photographer was in the thick of it, so you’ll definitely spot some polished pics in the next day’s paper.
Say what you want about Kim Kardashian — people sure do — but you can’t knock the hustle. Whether she’s fronting a brand or just posting selfies, the woman shows up, sells products, and keeps the empire going. If I had her bank account, I might just stay home and binge Netflix in silk pajamas, but Kim’s out here pushing perfume in Mississippi.
