One year for Halloween, I decided to bring a little classic TV charm — and a dash of gothic glam — to my living room with a spooky, small-scale celebration. I’ve always loved Halloween, but instead of going full haunted-house this year, I kept it cozy with a small gathering of ghouls, goblins, and a few brave humans.
Costumes were encouraged (of course), and I knew exactly who I wanted to channel: the darkly delightful Lily Munster.
As a child, I was completely enamored with reruns of The Munsters. There was just something magical about their spooky-but-sweet family dynamic. Elegant, undead, and effortlessly cool in her bat-winged gown, Lily was the original queen of creepy chic. So I did my best to recreate her look—complete with dramatic makeup, flowing hair, and that signature pale complexion that says, “Yes, I sleep in a coffin and I’m fabulous.”
To keep things festive, I asked guests to bring “scary snacks” — and they delivered. From eyeball cake balls to spider deviled eggs, the spread looked like something straight out of a horror-themed cooking show.
It wasn’t a big blowout, but it was just the right kind of eerie evening — full of fun, nostalgia, and just enough spookiness to feel like Halloween. Below are a few snapshots from the night, including my best attempt at undead glamour. Lily Munster would’ve been proud — or at least politely impressed.
I’d love to hear about some of your Halloween food recipes!
